Year after year, string musicians from all over descend upon Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds for the Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention which takes place over a fun filled weekend in mid-July. Visitors can camp out or come for the day and hear old time bluegrass and pickin'. Events like song writing contests, jam sessions and live concerts will keep you entertained as you browse the crafts and delicious homemade foods.

Blue Ridge Mountain Arts & Crafts Fair

The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts & Crafts Fair takes place annually, during the last weekend in July on the grounds of Crouse Park. Admission is free and patrons can enjoy live entertainment, the arts and crafts competitions, browse art like the special Alleghany Quilt Exhibit, and enjoy plenty of great food. A car show usually takes place nearby.

Alleghany County Fair

Alleghany CountyThis small county fair takes place every year during the last weekend in August. It features carnival rides, games, your favorite fair foods, agricultural exhibits and competitions and a huge lawnmower race Saturday night. Guests are always treated to fireworks following the conclusion of the race.

Mountain Heritage Festival

The Mountain Heritage Festival is a one-day only event that takes place in mid-September in downtown Sparta NC. This old time celebration of Appalachian Mountain heritage features arts and crafts for sale, skill demonstrations, live music, and tons of great food.

Christmas Parade

The Alleghany County North Carolina Christmas parade is always a fantastic time. It takes place in downtown Sparta in December and features Santa Claus, tons of great floats and live entertainment.
