Ashe County Festivals
Ashe County is a special place in Western North Carolina; a place where families can get together and enjoy a picnic on the Blue Ridge Parkway and a place filled with plenty of heritage and history. Several times a year different festivals take place, many of which pay homage to the local Appalachian culture.
The Todd Summer Music Festival typically begins when warmer weather hits our region. Every weekend in the summer, bluegrass and other mountain music jamborees
take place at the Todd General Store, and at various times storytellers also take part in the entertainment. Another festival that takes place in Ashe County each year is the Olde Time Bluegrass Fiddlers Convention.
Perhaps the most popular festival that
occurs in Ashe County, the Christmas in July Festival, takes place each year in the beginning of July and is a one day, free event. Downtown West Jefferson becomes filled with mountain music and crafters from all over the Western North Carolina Mountains. Each year the Christmas in July festival draws record crowds and features tasty foods from a variety of vendors.
In Lansing the weekend of August 15-17, the Ola Belle Reed Homecoming Festival pays tribute to singers and mountain musicians in the region. Ola Bell Reed was an acclaimed songwriter recognized by the Smithsonian after she recorded the signature song, High on a Mountain. This festival, like many of the others, is a great one to attend and learn more about the history of the Appalachian Mountains.
The many Ashe County festivals that take place in our region each year are unique and special events that bring the communities of Ashe County together. Learn more about these special
