New River NC
The New River is one of Ashe County’s most beautiful regions and a renowned landmark. The New River is a tributary of the Kanawha River, and flows through North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. In North Carolina it is 50 miles long and eventually empties out into the Atlantic Ocean. Home to several unique species of fish and other wildlife, the New River is typically a favorite fishing location for visitors and residents.

In our region of Ashe County, the South Fork and the North Fork of the river join together to make the landscapes surrounding the New River some of the most beautiful in the entire county. Many who are looking to move or buy an NC Mountain vacation home here are interested in the real estate located along the New River. Several of our NC Mountain properties and homes for sale are located along the New River and have gorgeous views.

On July, 30, 1998 President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore came to Ashe County to designate the New River as an American Heritage River, and today many efforts are underway to conserve regions of the river so its beauty is maintained for generations to come. This is very important as the New River, despite its name, is believed by some to be one of the oldest rivers in North America.
