Alleghany County may be one of the smaller and more rural counties in Western North Carolina, but that does not mean that it lacks refined characteristics such as outstanding public schools and healthcare options. In fact, while Alleghany County is the 6th smallest county in North Carolina in terms of overall population numbers, the county has a close knit community of quality healthcare and education professionals. If you are moving to the area, or seeking to buy Appalachian Real Estate, you will more than likely want to know all about the options for healthcare, and if you have school aged children or are seeking employment in the public school system you will have questions about the Alleghany County school system.

Alleghany Memorial Hospital is located in the county seaty, Sparta. Alleghany Memorial Hospital is a small community hospital that was established in 1948 to maintain and promote the welfare of the citizens and visitors to the communities throughout county. Today, it exists as a non-profit local hospital with a fully staffed, 24-hour emergency room, and is equipped to provide numerous medical services and tests.

Alleghany County Public Schools

There are four public schools in the county. Three out of the four are elementary schools that serve grades K-8 and the county has one lone high school, Alleghany High School, which serves students in grades 9-12. All of the Alleghany County Public Schools are high performing schools and students in the Alleghany County School District perform average or above in all categories that are usually tested. One reason that students do well in the public schools is due to the small class size afforded to students because the area and district are so small.
