Imagine a place where, when you step off your back porch you are minutes from being able to enjoy fishing in a trout-filled river, mountain biking on a flat, mountain road that runs parallel with the river, or horseback riding through the woods that surround the majestic river. There is a place where all of this is possible. Todd, North Carolina is a historic community that straddles the Watauga County and Ashe County line, where flat roads and farmlands meet the South Fork of the New River. When it was first settled in the late 18th century, the community was called Elk Cross Roads. Over time, it would become a rail road boomtown, having been located on the the Virginia Carolina Railway (sometimes called the Virginia Creeper Railroad). Many of the historic buildings that still stand in Todd, near the banks of the New River, remain from a time when the town was filled with settlers and visitors. The Todd General Store remains, as do a few other outposts that are now antique stores and delis.

There are numerous communities and developments cropping up in Todd. There is an abundance of Mountain Land for Sale, homes, and cabins on the New River. In fact, the cabins for sale are some of the most sought after ones in the state, and the land near the New River is considered some of the most beautiful. Invest in available real estate for sale near the New River. These properties are very convenient to areas in Watauga County, like Boone, and areas in Ashe County, like West Jefferson and Fleetwood.
