The stately and historic small city of Jefferson sits right next to its sister city, West Jefferson, in the beautiful mountains of Ashe County. It is one of the oldest established towns in Western North Carolina, having been chartered more than one hundred years ago, in 1803. Jefferson is the county seat of Ashe County and the county’s center of government and civil matters. The county’s historic courthouse is found here and was built in 1904 and then renovated in 2001 to restore its grand opulence.

The Area

The city may be very old but the lands here are ancient. The nearby crystal clear waters of the New River, one of the oldest in the world, flow right next to the city and the city’s affordable lifestyle is appealing to many. If you are looking for affordable North Carolina Mountain Real Estate, Jefferson could be a place you end up calling home or in which you end up owning a Luxury vacation retreat. Many of the log cabin homes for sale here spare nothing in the way of floor plans, but because land here is so much more affordable, the listing prices allow many to make their dreams of owning Mountain Property in North Carolina come true.
